The #TCOT Report Fastbreaking news from the conservative world Karl Rove, Now on the #TCOT List, Succeeds During First 37 Hours on Twitter January 10, 2009 1:09 pm CST Karl Rove's first update on Twitter came at 10:25 pm EST on Thursday, January 8. In the 37 hours since then, Rove, using his Twitter ID of @KarlRoveChannel, has shown why he's been such a successful political strategist throughout his career. Unlike many conservative "talking heads", politicos, and pundits, Rove gets Twitter. He's done some very smart things to raise his online profile and demonstrate that he's engaged with fellow conservatives online. The first smart thing that Rove did was join Top Conservatives on Twitter, the online community for conservatives. The second smart thing he did was ENGAGE with that community in exactly the ways recommended by #TCOT. (1) In 37 hours, Rove added 713 followers, and followed back virtually every single one of those followers. Currently, he follows 699 others on Twitter, almost a 1 to 1 ratio. (2) Rove has also been smart by personalizing his updates. Instead of using Twitter updates as a simple RSS feed to broadcast his own press releases, Rove's updates are individual responses to those who have sent him @ Replies on particular topics. Yes, it's really Karl Rove on the other end of the tweet, and yes, he really did read your tweet, think about it, and respond to it. At this rate, the Top 3 Conservatives on Twitter, @brooksbayne, @wbaustin, and @jamesdickey, all of whom have over 10,000 followers, better watch out. Karl Rove doesn't like to be anything other than #1 in anything he does !
